Judo is a traditional Japanese martial art and sport utilizing grappling and throwing techniques. Its basis is in Jujitsu, but the more hazardous techniques have been refined or eliminated to reduce the risk of injury during practice.
Judo is an excellent vehicle for physical and character development for children. It promotes balance, posture, strength, and flexibility as well as patience and inner strength. The focus is on safety, fun, exercise, and later, competitive spirit. Older students are also taught arm locks and chokes.
Judo is readily applicable to self defense.
Children may begin Judo practice starting at age seven.
